BTS Jin drinking with Young Ji before hiatus

Usually we cover shows that are available on paid streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, Rakuten Viki, etc. but with the recent announcement of the world famous K-pop boy group, BTS, going on hiatus, I have decided to share one of the “shows” that I watch on YouTube which is (or should be) available to everyone to watch for free.

Those of you who don’t really keep up with Korean variety shows may not know who Young Ji is, but if you watch her in motion, you’ll either be super energized or your energy will be completely sapped. Either way, she is memorable. Lee Young Ji is a 20 year old Korean personality. Yeah, she can’t really be shoved into any of the typical category because she is just all over the place and surprisingly talented in a variety of roles. She first shot to fame when she became the winner of a musical survival show called High School Rapper. I’m not really into the hip-hop scene on any continent, but she is, in my opinion, one of the best rappers in Korea. She quickly made her way to TV, eventually landing her a role alongside the famous Yu Jae Suk, one of Korea’s top MCs (a sort of host – both on screen and for offline events). Her most recent show, Earth Arcade, along with K-pop girl group IVE’s leader, Ahn Yu Jin, fellow rapper Mimi of OH MY GIRL, and female comedienne Lee Eun Ji, was one of my favorite shows of the season. In addition to all that, she is on YouTube.

There is no real channel that she is specifically on. It seems like she treats channels as “seasons” for her show, with each channel either hosting a new show or an individual season. The latest one is call No Prepare… yeah doesn’t make sense in English really. In Korean it is차린건 쥐뿔도 없지만 which Google Translate says means “I don’t even have a horn”… like, what? In any case, it is a by the cuff, on-the-fly show (hence, No Prepare) where they talk about stuff while drinking alcohol with various Korean celebrities at her house, and eventually she tries to kick them out of her house. It’s better if you watch it. My favorite episodes are the one with ITZY’s Chaeryeong (episode 4) and the one with Crush (episode 12). She also interviewed a Danish singer, Christopher, known for the song, Bad, that gets played a lot on Korean TV.

So on October 20th – I’m assuming Korea Standard Time (KST) – Young Ji will have her last “episode” featuring BTS Jin. This could be his last recording due to him being the eldest among BTS and probably the first to go for his mandatory military service. Honestly I don’t keep up with BTS since they are hardly on Korean variety shows, so I don’t know what their other schedules are, but it is fitting that the last episode of this YouTube “show” features Jin just before he goes on hiatus even if this isn't his very last show.

Hope you guys enjoy the change from the usual articles featuring paid streaming subscription shows. Be sure to check out the series on YouTube. Make sure to turn on the Closed Captions (CC) for English subs!
