Should you watch the Netflix K-drama Glitch?

The Netflix K-drama, Glitch, is a sci-fi (ish) mystery thriller that involves aliens, UFOs, and cults. The main character is an expressionless girl plagued by hallucinations that she spends all her energy ignoring. Her emotional fatigue spreads to her work and love life. However, one day her boyfriend mysteriously disappears which leads her to reconnect with her past and an old friend to investigate the strange circumstances behind her boyfriend’s disappearance.

The series is on the shorter side, clocking in at 10 episodes with around an hour runtime each, though the exact time is inconsistent. Despite this, the series does not leave you with the feeling that it is incomplete or unsatisfactory, except when they want you to. Cerebral K-dramas can often drag out the premise or add too much filler in between the pillar events or milestones of the premise which leads to pacing problems and evenness throughout the series. I usually keep the remote handy to fast-forward through these moments. However, this series paces the story relatively well save for the first episode or so. It’s not perfect, but it is not as glaring as, say, Little Women.

The acting was excellent. The story was a balancing act between serious and ridiculousness to the tune of comedy, and somehow they pulled it off. I was especially impressed with NANA’s acting. She was part of the K-pop group After School as well as a sub-unit of the group called Orange Caramel. I first got to know more about her when she was on the K-variety show, Roommate, which had a lot of now-famous people on it. That was years ago, so watching her come back as such a talented actress was a pleasant surprise to me. It also amused me that her character was such a proficient potty-mouth which is almost completely opposite of her actual personality. Granted a lot can change in 10 years, but it’s still such an extreme change.

Now, considering that this is a mystery thriller, almost anything can be considered a spoiler. Together with our strict “no/low spoiler” policy, we can’t really give much details on the story or the series, so this will be a short review article.

So, back to the question: should you watch the Korean drama show, Glitch? I think it is worth your time. And, unlike a lot of the non-Korean shows on Netflix, you won’t be left hanging for wont of another season. You’ll still have questions, but it’s questions that will probably not get answered.
