A sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is officially in the works

CD Projeckt Red, the studio behind the hit videogame series The Witcher (thought I was going to say Cyberpunk 2007, huh) has officially announced that a sequel for Cyberpunk 2077 is in development.

CDPR released a lot of news on a lot of things, including news of Marcin Iwiński the co-CEO and co-Founder of the studio stepping down into a non-executive role – we assume because of the issues with development and launch of cyberpunk 2077 as well as employee issues – after 30 years at the helm. However, the news that obviously got our attention was news of a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.

Considering the success of the recent anime, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and the recent record-setting uptick in people playing the Cyberpunk 2077 game on Steam, it is no surprise that a sequel was announced. The codename for the project is Orion, and this time it will be developed mainly in North America in a new studio in Boston, USA as well as another studio in Vancouver, Canada. No other details on the game or its intended release date have been announced.

Hopefully this game will be better developed and expand the gameplay to be more on par with their famed Witcher set of games or in line with the genre’s expectations set by Fallout and Skyrim. Lessons learned as well as the rumored switch to Unreal Engine 5 may allow us to hope and dream.
