Rapper behind hit song Gangsta’s Paradise has passed away

Coolio, the rapper behind the hit song Gangsta’s Paradise has passed away. He was 59.

According to CNN, multiple sources confirmed that Coolio passed away in his home in Los Angeles on September 28th, 2022 in the afternoon. Emergency crews were called to his home and he was found unresponsive. No word on the cause of death.

In an age where almost any sort of popular song can be called “a hit”, the fact that one of his songs, Gangsta’s Paradise, hit a billion views on YouTube in July 2022 makes it a true hit. The song, originally for the soundtrack of a Michelle Pfeiffer movie called Dangerous Minds released in 1995, would earn Coolio a Grammy in 1996. And trust me, the song is not popular because of the movie. It is a testament that his song is still popular over 25 years later. If you’re a fan of Korean variety shows, you’ll often see the song play in the background when singer Kim Jong Kook gets aggressive on Running Man. Trust me, it makes more sense when you see it in person. In more recent years, Coolio has appeared on TV and other public appearances even doing work for Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network.

I'm livin' life do or die, what can I say?

I'm 23 now, will I live to see 24?

The way things is going I don't know

Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise (feat. L.V.)

You made it way past 24, Coolio.
