Remake of the classic anime Rurouni Kenshin announced

During the Aniplex Online Fest 2022 event a remake of the classic anime and manga series, Rurouni Kenshin, was announced. The announcement was accompanied by a fantastic preview of what to expect, animation-wise.

This comes doubly a surprise considering that the creator, Nobuhiro Watsuki, had recently been part of a scandal where he had pleaded in court that he was a pedophile and was attracted to elementary school girls. Maybe this was not seen as serious enough of an issue in Japan, or maybe simply the popularity of the series could not be held back by the sins of the creator.

The studio in charge of the remake is Liden Films, which, in addition to other titles, also did the Netflix series Kotaro Lives Alone that we recently finished. Ironic, considering that the series touches on childhood abuse and trauma and now the same studio is in charge of a series by a convicted pedophile.

The original anime series did not get to adapt the entire manga series. It is thought that this new version of the series will stick more closely to the original work and possibly adapt the entire series.
