The main actor of Netflix’s K-drama, Squid Game, will join the Star Wars universe

With the Squid Game scoring him an Emmy nomination, it seems that this Korean actor now has another industry badge of honor: a Star Wars role.

As reported by Deadline, Korean actor Lee Jung-Jae, known world-wide for his role in the hit Netflix series, Squid Game (a Korean drama), has been tapped to play a currently unknown role in the upcoming Star Wars series, The Acolyte, for streaming service Disney+.

Deadline describes the series as below:

“The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging Dark Side powers in the final days of the High Republic era”.

As an aside, in the Star Wars universe, the title of “acolyte” is used to refer to Force-sensitive apprentices who follow the dark side of the Force, usually under a Sith Lord (like Darth Vader).

Lee Jung-Jae is a veteran actor in Korea, but his status was elevated when series he starred in started appearing on Netflix, such as Chief of Staff and, of course, Squid Game, which earned him an Emmy nomination. He recently made his directorial debut with Hunt, a movie he also starred in.

As you guys probably know, I watch a lot of K-drama and K-variety shows, so I’m more than excited about an actor of his caliber getting a role in the beloved Star Wars universe. Next up, a Marvel role?
