New Gundam: The Witch from Mercury trailer
A new trailer for the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury anime series includes awesome new visuals of the environment as well as the supporting cast members. The biggest reveal in the trailer is the opening song for the series, “The Blessing” by Yoasobi.
With all the effort made in the animation, design, and even audio (including background music) portions of the new series, I’m personally surprised by the underwhelming opening song. It doesn’t seem to be a bad song, per se, but it feels like it should be in another anime. After watching the prologue and the emotional weight of it all, I had expected something with as much emotional weight for the opening theme song. Even some of the music from the previous Gundam series come to mind, such as Gundam Seed’s opening music or even Unicorn’s. But who knows. Gundam Wing’s opening felt a bit out of place at the time but eventually became a classic. Again, it is a personal opinion, so take it with a dash of salt. Still, I almost braced myself for another isekai story – a light-hearted one at that!
