Netflix anime, Uncle from Another World, is delayed indefinitely!

After a 2 week delay for the recent episode (episode 5) due to COVID-19, the Netflix anime series, Uncle from Another World, announced that it would further be delayed indefinitely from episode 8 onwards.

According to ANN, the series will be delayed indefinitely “due to rapid increases in COVID-19 infections within Atelier Pontdarc and other studios involved in the anime's production.”

The official website (JP) for the series mentions episode 6 and episode 8, but does not mention episode 7, so it is unknown whether it will follow the normal schedule on Netflix or not. I’m assuming that episodes 6 and 7 will be available on Netflix as usual, but episode 8 will be held off until the parties involved feel they are ready to resume production.

Personally, I did not think the series benefited from the “drip-fed” method of releasing an episode every week due to its pacing. These interruptions to scheduling make matters worse. Although the drip-fed method was something the powers-that-be decided and planned for, the interruptions due to COVID-19 were not. I am glad they are taking the situation seriously, and applaud them for being brave enough to do the right thing for their team. But on the other hand, I wish the series had been put up as a finished product instead of piecemeal. If you haven’t started on the series yet, I’d recommend holding off on it until at least a season is completed. This one of those shows that would benefit from binge watching.
